MAY/JUNE UPDATE
Blimey! This “monthly” update is a bit late! Sorry for the delay but, as I said in January’s update, this has been a particularly busy time for Lip Service.
Firstly, a HUGE thank you to everyone that came and supported us at the Emergenza event in the West One Four club in London. What a night! As Brian Lamb put it so eloquently, “we tore London a new asshole!” The band had a great time and we have a good DVD of the show to prove it! It was heart-warming to see so many people turn up and support us (and travel a great distance too in many cases) and, thanks to you, we were asked back to play for Emergenza again, (this time in Southampton). London, we fucking loved playing for you, if you want us back you only have to ask!
So, the next gig saw us play the Talking Heads in Southampton (one of Southampton’s premiere venues for live music). If anything could top London then it was this gig! Special thanks to the sound engineer who did a fantastic job – we’ve never been so loud and/or clear! Again, Lip Service fans did us proud. Once again, Emergenza asked us back for yet another gig, again in Southampton, this time at The Joiners.
And this is where the Lip Service drummer curse struck again!!! Mark Jones disappeared into the sunset as another mean, no-good hired-gun took up the drummers throne. All Hail Dave West! “Big” Dave is a fucking MONSTER! He was without a doubt the “man of the match” at The Joiners and Lip Service played songs from the set list the way they should have been played for the first time in ages. Awesome! It was also cool to know that we were using the same changing rooms (and I use that phrase VERY loosely) that The Quireboys, Ricky Warwick, Tokyo Dragons amongst others had used.. Meanwhile, Big Dave has certainly injected new blood into the sound. If you want to see him in action then come to The North Star, Gosport, May 19, where Lip Service will be playing a full 2 hour set. Doors open 8.00pm.
What are our plans for the summer? Hopefully, we’ll get into the studio and finish off the CD. There are four more tracks to be recorded and we’ve got great hopes for all of them. Also listen out for us on the radio, Pulse Rated (Sky 905).
I guess that, knowing our track record, I should say that we would like to get in touch with any drummers out there who think that they’ve got what it takes (no previous Lip Service drummers need apply). Send us an e-mail if you’re interested. There are some more things in the pipeline but that’s enough for now. Here’s hoping we bump into you at one of our gigs, until then...

JANUARY 2006
A ROCKIN’ NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!
Hope you all had a good one. Now it’s time to shed some of those pounds that accumulated over crimbo and get yer arse back into gear and get out and see some live music again, and we all know that no-one kicks yer arse like Lip Service does!
This promises to be a good year for us if the first couple
of weeks of 2006 are anything to go by.
First off, the curse of Spinal Tap hits again!!! Yep, it’s time to change
drummers once more! Lip Service welcome Mark Jones back into the family and
we look forward to making some good music together. Mark’s already well
and truly contributing lots in terms of lyrics and ideas so watch out for
loads more new material very soon. A recent night out in London bought to
light some very interesting/ unsavoury facts about him – so look out
for gossip on his page on the web site!
Speaking of London, Lip Service will be playing at the West One Four Club, Kensington, London, on Friday 17 February (doors open at 7.00 pm). We’re one of 6 (count ‘em) rock bands playing on the night and it’s all part of the Emergenza UK search for new unsigned bands so, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come along and support us and live music. Tickets cost £6.00 (£8.00 on the night) and can be obtained by getting in touch with us via this web site. We look forward to seeing you there. It’ll be a great night and one that you’ll not want to miss.
Four new tracks make their way to radio stations and A&R people as we speak. You can hear the new single “Back To School” by going to www.wildplumnetwork.co.uk and calling up the Lip Service page. It would really help the band if you could rate the song as well as this is a good guide for us as to whether we’re pushing the right buttons or not. Loads of people have already accessed the page and in the space of 48 hours our chart position rose from 682 to 130!!! With the help of all the Lip Service fans out there I’m sure that we can get into double figures – who knows? Maybe even single figures? We’re still writing material for the next album. At the moment we’re currently putting the finishing touches to a charming little ditty called “Grease Monkey”.
Finally, as we’ve got a new member and a new album coming out we’re also going to take the opportunity to update the web site. Everything will still be as good as it is at the moment but will reflect the new line up and the new songs so, keep logging on.
‘Till next time…
PLAY IT LOUD!
DECEMBER 2005
Have a Rockin' good Xmas!
Lip Service wish you all a very merry Xmas and happy new year!
We look forward to seeing you all in the
new year,
until then...

NOVEMBER 2005
AWRIGHT! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?
Here’s the latest from the Lip Service Church of Rock!
Lip Service seem to have had some Spinal Tap moments lately, in particular going through an inordinate number of drummers in a very short space of time. Was it something we said? We think that we’ve got it sorted and we can now confirm that the position of drummer extraordinaire has been filled by a charming, shy, gentle fellow called SKORCH!!! Boys and girls, he’s ready to bite your fucking faces off!! This boy rocks like a bastard and we can’t wait to unleash him live.
He is NOT a girl as intimated in the last news bulletin – Sara, who was standing in and looking to join full-time, had other commitments that meant that she wouldn’t be able to rock with us. As it turns out, we certainly got the better end of the deal, Skorch’s drumming sounds angrier than a grizzly with a hangover and he’s certainly already had a huge impact on the band and our ‘sound’. Please come and see him debut with the band on November 13 at The Swan in Woolston, Southampton.
Skorch has also had a huge input in the studio and we’ve got 4 new tracks waiting for vocals, sound effects and mixing. The titles of the tracks recorded so far are: Bang Bang, Addicted, Back to School and Seven Seven as well as a fifth track, an instrumental, with the working title of Enter the Soundman! In the grand scheme of things this means that we’re probably half way through with another 3 songs to go down. The first four will be mixed soon and sent off to radio stations far and near so listen out for some airplay in November and December.
Speaking of radio – Pulse Rated (Sky channel 905 and www.pulserated.com) has been really plugging “Love Gone Done Me Bad” for the past two weeks so a huge thanx to them and to anyone who tuned in. The band are really excited by the new tracks that we’ve recorded so far, even though they’re in an early form, we can’t wait for radio and, of course, you guys to hear the new stuff. If you liked “Never Been Done Before” then you’ll shit yourself when you hear “ S’all Good”.
So, there you have it. Even though it’s been a quiet period for us in terms of live appearances, things are happening “behind the scenes” and I promise you, anyone who thinks that they’ve heard Lip Service ain’t heard nothing yet!
‘Till next time, PLAY IT LOUD!
AUGUST 2005
Well, it’s been a busy couple of months once again for the band!Since the last update we’ve played Nicki’s tribute gig at the Talking Heads in Southampton, ably supported by The Bruce Roberts Band and NV. A big thank you to everyone who attended. It was quite a fun night and a special thank you to Bruce and NV for trying to blow us off stage! The night ended with an on-stage jam with members from all three bands playing Nicki’s songs for the last time. Poignant but fun, Nicki would have been proud of the turn out and the “send off” that everyone gave her.Unfortunately Nicki’s tribute gig was also the last one that Neil Chapman would play with Lip Service. Neil has decided to take a break from playing for a little while and the band wish him all the best. We look forward to performing with him again at a later date.Neil’s departure has, of course, meant that Lip Service have had to audition for a new drummer and we think that we’ve found the right person to join us. I’m not saying anymore just yet but expect to see her (Yes! It’s a girl!) perform with us sometime in September. For the last two months we’ve been in the studio working on new material and everyone has had a huge input, writing songs like they’re going out of fashion! A new CD (titled “It’s All Good”) will be available soon and the band is very excited about the new stuff and thinks that you’ll like it too. We’ll post more details when the CD is nearer completion.Until then, thank you for your continued support and remember…PLAY IT LOUD!MAY 2005
What a busy month for Lip Service! Things seem to be really happening for us now!
Battle of the Bands
Lip Service recently won their heat of the Battle of the Bands competition held in Gosport, and are through to the semi-finals. This will take place on June 16 at the Sidewalk Nightclub, Gosport, Hants. Come and support your favourite rock band!!
Lipservice on the radio
You can now hear the band on the radio! Matt McIloy, from Radio 107.4 The Quay, Portsmouth, played 'Lip Service' on his show on Sunday 8 May. He called the band 'excellent' and the song 'brilliant' as well as paying a nice tribute to Nicki. Thanks Matt! His show runs from 21.00-22.00 hours and is well worth a listen.
We are also getting lots of air play on Pulse Unsigned, a station on digital radio. They will be playing 'Love Gone Done Me Bad' and 'Double Dealing' for the next few weeks. This is FANTASTIC news! What's more, all you Lip Service fans can support us by logging onto www.pulseunsigned.com or Sky Channel 905, and vote for our tracks. The more votes we get, the more chance we have of getting noticed by the industry movers and shakers.
Also, look out for similar airplay from One Music soon (Radio 1's digital station).
Tribute to Nicki
Finally, just a reminder that a tribute gig for Nicki is taking place on June 10 at The Talking Heads, Portsmood, Southampton. Lip Service are being supported by The Bruce Roberts Band and NV and it promises to be an excellent evening. It will be the last time that Nicki's songs will be performed live and we intend to remember her in style. So, come along, all are welcome. Doors open 19.30 hours.Let's hope next month gives us more good things to report. 'Till then - PLAY IT LOUD!!
